Tracy’s Framboise- Batch 24 Bottled (Finally!)

Tonight we bottled Tracy’s Framboise that’s been sitting in the fermenter since March 1st.  All that time sitting there had me extremely curious as to how it would turn out, especially since the trub in the fermenter looked nasty. Siphoned the beer into my bottling bucket, then took the final gravity, which came to 1.004.  …

My Own IPA- Batch 27

I decided to brew an IPA.  With some $$$ from a friend and some side work I did, I decided to brew a big hoppy IPA.  I checked out dozens of award winning beer recipies, and in the end decided to formulate my own. 7lbs light malt extract syrup 2lbs 2 row 1/2lb crystal malt …

…Hmmm……Weizenbeir…

My weizenbeir was ready to drink last Friday.  Bottle fermentation was quick, thanks to the warm weather.  How did it turn out? The first thing I noticed was the aroma.  The Saaz with the wheat and Hallertauer made a playful combination of smells, the distinct smell of a wheat with Hallertauers but the Saaz teased …

Batch 26 Bottled

Yesterday I bottled my weizenbeir.  Final gravity was 1.010, for a final alcohol by volume of 5.25%.  Taste wise, it was less wheaty than I normally like, but that was due to the extra corn sugar I put in lightening the flavor.  The hop presence was nice, you could really pick out the hallertauer’s- not …

Batch 25- Lucky Stout

Back in March I brewed my 25th batch of beer.  Did a remake of the famous Lucky Stout (famous among those who’ve tried it.) Bottled it on 3/18/09, and have only a few bottles left.  My next brew is a German style Weizen, will follow up once I pitch the yeast.

Batch 16 Bottled, Batch 17 in the Wings

Bottled up batch 16, our Bombay IPA, last Thursday.  The final gravity was 1.010, initial gravity was 1.050, giving us a .040 difference.  Multiply the .040 by 105 gives us 4.2, which is the percentage by weight.  Multiply 4.2 by 1.25 gives us 5.25, which is the percent by volume.  Sampling the beer it had …

Buckingham Bitter – Batch 15

Sunday my friend (and investor) and I brewed a bitter, after having received 1lb of fuggles and Kent Goldings hops for free (thanks, Erica!) The recipe called for 12oz of crystal malt and 4.5lbs of light malt extract.  We used a touch over a pound of British caramalt and 5lbs of light malt extract. All …

Real American Ale – Batch 14

Last night we brewed batch 14, a Papazian recipe called “Real American Ale” (we meaning my investor and myself.)  It is based off of a british bitter, but with American hops instead.  It is also an all malt extract recipe, so it was real easy to do. 4-1/2 lbs of amber malt extract, 1-1/2 oz …
